Proactive nudges & triggers

Fire the right message at the right moment based on visitor behaviour.

Watching visitors is useful, but the real value comes from acting on what you see. Proactive nudges fire the right message at the right moment — based on how a visitor is actually behaving — so that passive watching turns into measurable conversions.

What a nudge is

A nudge is a message delivered to a visitor while they are still on your site, prompted by their behaviour rather than by a click. Instead of waiting for someone to reach out, NudgeVisor watches the signals it already collects through the widget — pages viewed, time on a page, the journey they are taking — and steps in at a moment that matters. Nudges are delivered through the same installed widget that powers live monitoring and chat, so there is nothing extra to add to your pages.

Common triggers

Triggers are based on the visitor behaviour the widget observes. A few patterns are worth nudging on straight away:

  • Exit intent — the visitor looks like they are about to leave. A timely nudge can keep them engaged before the tab closes.
  • Stalls and hesitation — someone has lingered on a page without progressing, a sign they may be stuck or weighing a decision. This is a natural moment to offer help.
  • Repeat visits — a visitor who keeps coming back is showing real interest. A nudge can acknowledge that and move the conversation forward.

Targeting nudges by segment

Behaviour decides when a nudge fires; who the visitor is decides whether it should. Using the attributes and segments you attach to visitors, you can hold a nudge back for the people who matter most — for example, only nudging Enterprise visitors, or only those from a particular region. Combining a behavioural trigger with a segment means the right people see the message, and everyone else is left undisturbed.

Nudges and live chat

A nudge does not have to be the end of the conversation — it can be the start of one. Rather than simply showing a message, a nudge can invite the visitor into a chat, handing them straight to your team in the live chat inbox. This turns a moment of hesitation into a real conversation while the visitor's intent is still high.

Measuring conversions

The point of a nudge is not the message itself but what happens next. Because each nudge is tied to a specific behaviour and audience, you can see which combinations of trigger and segment actually move visitors forward — and refine the ones that do not. That feedback loop is what turns proactive nudges from a nice touch into a measurable contribution to conversions.
